Strategic Feasibility Study of the Congress and Convention Segment

 

This study analyzes the current conditions and market value of congresses and conventions held in Mexico, with the purpose of making base recommendations for proposing strategies to promote this tourist sector.

The study comprises seven sections: Section one specifies the congresses and conventions that fall within the business tourist market; sections two and three include the results of a survey conducted with Mexican and American meeting planners who evaluated the perception and competitiveness of this market's main destinations in Mexico; section four presents an analysis of the physical supply infrastructure; section five discusses the complexity of organizing these types of meetings; section six deals with estimating the economic impact of congresses and conventions and, finally, section seven includes recommendations for proposing strategies for the market and its participants, as well as the public sector.

One of the study’s main findings was that 7,150 congresses and conventions were held in Mexico in 2001, attended by 1,524,500 people and generating revenue of 1,467.3 million USD.
